I'm a recent switcher who finally took the plunge. I have to say that this thing kicks @ss and I will never go back. If anyone has any questions on the new one if they are looking to purchase it I'll try and answer them. But I would have to say, especially to any potential switchers, you won't regret it!

My only question is, "where did you get it?" I'm going to be looking at one of four Apple stores near me and maybe a Fry's or two.

The Apple Store. They didn't have them out on display yet but they had them in stock.

Have you tried it with any games? How is the graphics card work?
Thanks

At 1440x900 warcraft 3 runs ok, nothing spectacular but very good and looks great in widesreen. RTCW runs perfect in 1024x768, I haven't gone past that yet, and that is with all the details waxed out. So it seems very good in the video card department, much better than I thought.

I'd be interested in hearing, too.

Someone with a new 1Ghz iMac has posted his Xbench scores. www.xbench.com

New 1Ghz 17" iMac, with 256Mb and OS X 10.2.3: 86.63

My 800mhz 17" iMac, with 768Mb and OS X 10.2.3: 67.86

Whether or not you like the Xbench methodology, it at least gives a like-for-like comparison. And on that basis, the new iMac scores 28% better than mine. Such is life -- the new machine looks a good deal to me.

If you play any q3 based games do yourself a favor and customize the resolution:

open the console with the ~ key.
/r_mode -1
/r_customheight heightresolution(I think this is 940, can't remember)
/r_customwidth widthresolution(width is like 1440?!)
/vid_restart

And there you have it

That does not sound bad at all. My G4 933 with 1.5 GB, a nice 80 gig 7200 RPM drive and a ATI 7500 only gets a 86.17. And this machine is plenty fast!
Yes, I know I could buy a PC, but why?
