I'd like to transfer my G4 400mhz (Sawtooth) into a PC case. Would it be a difficult task? I figure this way I could install an extra cd-drive and a floppy drive along with my zip drive. Also I would have front access USB ports and if possible Firewire ports as well. I've never done anything like this, but I figure it can't be hard to learn. Here's a pic of the case I'd like to use (click on it for a larger view):

I saw this done on TechTV. Two things you should be aware of...

1) The screw holes in the Apple mobo do not match up with the holes to screw it down in the ATX case. They used plastic ties to secure the mobo to the case, as they could be fed through the misaligned holes and locked. Needless to say, if you know how to use a drill well - you'd probably want to try that instead.

2) The holes on the back for the various ports didn't lineup with the Apple ports, so he had to cut his own holes for some of the ports.

Can it be done? Yes. Is it easy? No.

Actually, I want to do the same thing with one of our old 400mhz G4s; I want to put it in a 1U rackmount case.

If you guys can do it, maybe I can too.

I think it is a great idea, i always wanted to put my G4500 boad in a PC, cause the lack of avaliable bays fustrated the hell out of me. I ended up chopping the top part of my G4 to allow for another bay space. Hey, there's room up there. I bought the computer because i needed a mac, not a piece of plastic to admire at... I wish Apple would think like me, Functionality, Expandability and creativity. Artistically, maybe not, it now look's like frankinstien with it's brains showing.
