Hey, ive got a dual 867 MDD Powermac with 768mb ram. About 4 days ago I noticed 3 beeps upon startup, this happened 3 times and then it *magically* worked again. So I got my Powerbook in, and didn't touch the pMac.

Just trying to reinstall now. First time I loaded the install disc everything was dog slow, clicking a submit button took 20 seconds, loading disc utility took about 40. I figured it had something to do with the memory, I took out my 3rd party stock and tried it, same, then did the same for the Apple chip, same.

I loaded disk utility and did repair drive. I did the hardware disc test thing, the extended one, everything passed. I am at lost to why it will not install.

When I eventually do get to the install bar, it goes REALLY slow, and doesnt install, like after a while 2 pieces of black and white text appear saying you must reboot.

OS X runs fine and dandy, bad install disk? I have a Powerbook DVD disc if that will install.

Looking up error code, memory is most likely culprit, processor second, for three beeps.

Recommend pulling all ram and checking ram slots for debris, possibly cleaning contacts. If that doesn't work, try reseating the processor card. Also, you might want to try reseating the video card. With the AGP slot so closly tied to memory, I have seen a bad card cause a memory error.

If the unit is still under warranty (MDD should be), take it to a repair shop if that doesn't fix it (and don't reseat the proc card if you are worried about damaging the connector).

Your original post said it beeped three times - The beep error code, three beeps at startup, indicates memory.
