Have a first generation G4 (1999)... actually, two of them are giving me this problem... the OS X 10.2 installer hangs on both of them, starts out insanely slow and says "Reading packages" for over an hour before I finally give up. 10.2 installs on other identically-equipped machines in the lab with no problems. Any ideas?

thanks!

Has the firmware on these machines been updated? I ask because I also have a first generation G4, a 450 mhz Sawtooth, and Jaguar gave me all kinds of trouble--at first failing to install, and then, when I finally did get it installed, crashing repeatedly--until I updated the firmware. Since then, it's been steady as a rock.

Good point -- I don't think they've been touched AT ALL since installation, honestly, with the exception of updating Photoshop to 7 and the OS to 9.1. The firmware came to mind and is the first thing I intended to do on Monday, but I thought I'd see if it's a known problem first. Thanks so much!
