Mods - please dont move this post to peripherals. Its related to a specific imac model and Im having trouble getting a definitive answer, so Id appreciate if you allow it in this room where Im more likely to get advice from someone who knows this model.

I have a g4 700mhz 15 inch imac (Spring 2002 original model).

I want to buy a digital video camera for it.

My model has 2 firewire and 3 usb ports, but no av in/out or s-video ports.

Most of the less expensive models i have seen have only av connectors, whereas the more expensive models support firewire.

Some of the mid range models support usb, but the generally claim to only have windows xp drivers.

What is the go here? Id like to spend no more than $700 US, or about $1300 AUS.

Can anyone help me? Can I buy an av camera and some sort of adaptor to connect it to my firewire port? Or do I need a more expensive firewire camera.

To use iMovie you need a camera with FireWire. There are analogue to FireWire converters, but they are around U$250, so you might as well by a new camera.

Try a Canon MV500i--that might be close to your range.

I have used inexpensive (under $700) Canon and Sony digital cameras with Firewire on my iMac with no problems.

A quick check of JVC's web site shows 5 models with list prices less than $700. They are all IEE 1394 (Firewire) compliant.

Hope this helps.

I've got a Canon ZR-40, which has FireWire and RCA jacks, and it works fine with iMovie and Final Cut Pro. Around $499. It's a nice, small, easy to carry unit.
Why is there always money for war, but none for education?

Now I get it.

Thanks guys.

Ok Im going to buy the Canon MV500i; apple sell it from their online store, so that means free delivery, and within my price range.

Thanks again.
