hi,
When I boot into OS X (10.2.3) initially I have no audio.
When I open any program that uses audio (QuickTime, iTunes, etc) and start playing media, the app. will "Not Respond"
So then I have to go to system preferences > audio > output, then system preferences will Not respond for about 30 seconds .. and then, magically I have audio again.
Also it has happened to me that iTune skips the music for about 3-5 seconds and then continue playing.
Even stranger, iTunes will skip, but other apps. that access audio will continue to work flawlessly (for example while playing quake II)
Anyone ?

I'll take a stab, but it really is just a guess. I am wondering about the ram, regarding the skipping and delays, I had something like this a ways back, try changing the order of the ram, I seem to remeber something about apple ram not playing nice with other ram, I don't fully recall. This would just be a "might as well try it thing", I have no really bases for this except some thing I did a ways back for something I am not even sure of on an older build of X. Might want to try zapping the pram and relaunching the finder. I have an 867QS. Good luck.

Actually I think it's 10.2.3 or something.
Before that my pro speakers worked perfect. Now they're a disaster and a horror to use.
oh well.

I rather doubt it was 10.2.3, apart from display getting screwed (common on old iMacs) I've had no problems whatsoever. few panics due to HD filling too high...

I have pro speakers on my 867QS as well as an iSub and the sound is great. I was having that static sound for the longest time and the iSub would start doing something aweful (think is was related to airport card), but all is well in Jag, I was worried that it was my sound card at the time and no upgrade was going cure my problem. I am quite content with my machine actually.

Try booting from CD (or OS 9), and locating the files:
(hard drive)/Library/Preferences/com.apple.soundpref.plist
(home)/Library/Preferences/com.apple.systempreferences.plist
Rename or move them to a different location, then reboot.
