hey there, New dual 1.25 here, soon, but not now I'd like to defrag the HD as more and more files will slow it down a bit, what does one use on a mac?.....free software anywhere? thanks

No free software that I know of.

If you have a spare partition/HD that is large enough, copy all the files over to the other partition. Erase original partition, then copy them all back. Note: this works fine with OS 9, but you need to know what you are doing to do this with an X partition.

You should be able to use Carbon Copy Cloner to copy a Mac OS X installation to another partition.
And yes, Norton Utilities has Speed Disk which defrags.
