Hi. I have a rev1 beige G3 running OSX 10.2.2, and desperatley need a video card upgrade.

I've read that the Radeon 7000 isnt supported on beige G3s in OSX, but I also read that this issue was fixed in OSX 10.1.5

So, if I buy the card, will I have problems using it? I dont care about OS9 support either, I dont even have it installed

Officially the card isnīt supported:

I wouldnīt try it.
but look at the Radeon Mac edition.
People in this forums tells that the card is better than the 7000 and this seems to support your Beige G3!

I have a Radeon 7000 installed in my Beige G3 running OS X 10.2.3; plus: Sonnet ATA 100 and Sonnet USB/Firewire cards. All work fine. Any compatibility problem is definitively fixed since 10.1.5.
Before 7000 this beige had a Radeon Mac Edition now moved to a PM9600.

When playing a dvd in full screen mode frames dropped, while with Radeon Mac Edition all went fine. I don't know when this "problem" showed up. It could be from cards swapping, Mac OS X updates, firware updates; but I don't play dvds on macs and quartz is definitively boosted (while QE not enabled ).

If you can find a Radeon Mac Edition buy it. If not, buy a Radeon 7000.

NOTE: when booting the screen remains black (stopped) until OS X reaches "network initialization" or so. This is a well known Radeon (any PCI version) + beige issue. So don't think that your new card is DOA. Wait an listen to your drive (it's a sign that OS X is booting)

Bye
Sam

All check out dvds frame drops by swapping cards again... stay tuned.

I have a Radeon Mac Edition in my rev 1 Beige G3. It works fine. With QE enabled it really makes OS X responsive.

Can you enable QE on a Radeon 7000? I should imagine that you can.

It is a bit of a pain that the screen is blank right up to the last seconds of the boot process. This is due to the fact that the on board video cannot be disabled. If you ever get problems booting, transfer the monitor to the on board video port and you'll get to see the boot process and (hopefully) what's going wrong.

well its pretty much impossible to find a radeon mac without giving up an arm and a leg to get it.

Im not gaming or anything. Just rendering windows and effects like the genie thing are a bit sluggish. thats why Im looking at the 7000, a cheaper card, but it will be more than fast enough. But Im worried about compatibility since Ive heard both stories

Have a look here:

http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/Graphics/..._feedback.html

Reports claim that the Radeon 7000 works in a Beige G3 as of Mac OS 10.1.5.

Hope this helps.
