Hi!

I'm willing to know if it's possible to dump additional rewriter in with DVD... It has zip-bay sans drive, and I have no need for such thing...

It is possible, but it is a MAJOR hack. Literally, plan on taking a hacksaw to the front of your G4's case. Also plan to cut/break some cooling fins off your CPU heatsink. And you will lose the front plastic covers for the drive bays, no one makes replacements for this hack.

I've seen pics posted of such hacks. Not as pretty as they could be, but they did work.

hmm, so the bays aren't as wide as normal devices are? there's the zip-bracket, it'll have to go...

the zip bracket is the same bracket that holds the CD drive; it's a one piece unit. so, if you want to use that space, you'll have to cut up that bracket and fab new one, and also cut the front of the machine to make a wider slot for the optical drive.

check out this link on some guy who hacked his quicksilver. he did a pretty nice job.

I assume by the wording of the question that you want to keep your existing DVD drive in the machine. If you don't need both, it is a trivial matter to swap the dvd out and replace it with an IDE burner.

I ended up getting an internal scsi burner then throwing it in a $3 pc box that i picked up from Goodwill. You could try this with an IDE extension attached to the Zip cable, but i think that there are shielding and length problems involved. If you spring for a SCSI card (Adaptec 2906 more than enough) it'll work fine, but then it's hard to round up a cheap scsi drive these days.
