I've tried macseek.com and found pretty good deals on memory (I want to speed my iMac and my iBook with extra 512MB). I found almost 50 american dollars (80 Canadian) difference between macseek and a local store.

The problem of buying memory in the states is the shipping is more expensive, gotta pay taxes (GST, PST) and there is a custom tax on it... what makes a good deal, not so great anymore. Some deales even charge 8% more because they are delivering outside states (Coast to Coast Memory)

Does anyone here knows where to find such good deals in Canada?

I though about having the memory delivered to someone I know in states and then have it shipped to me as a gift (trying to avoid customs and taxes). The problem is.. any problem with the memory, I would have to return it and I would be paying a lot in shipping back to my friend and then to the company....

If anyone here have any suggestions, I would appreciate.

Aren't you a student? I would suggest your university store. At my uni store, the 512 MB chips are $333 for both the iMac and the iBook.

Cheers.
Have a nice day!

Sander,

I am a student, but I am not sure how much is extra memory at the university micro store...

Is the $333 you mentioned for both iBook and iMac memories (2x 512MB) ???? Here in Calgary we have a store that sells cheap memory here are the prices:

For the iBook:
128MB - CAN$55 ($35)
256MB - CAN$130 ($81)
512MB - CAN$180 ($112)
For the iMac:
256MB - CAN$124 ($77)
512MB - CAN$279 ($175)

Landos,

as you can seee from the prices I listed, it is still cheaper in states... the problem is I don't know how much they will charge in the customs, and if there is any problem with the memories, I would have to ship it back.. that would cost a lot!

Rafaelperini, I don't know why there isn't a competitive Canadian online store that sell RAM.
I've thought about doing the same and have RAM shipped to a friend. I think if you get it from a reputable place, chances are the RAM will be okay.

However, here in Toronto, Best Buy has opened up a few stores.
Price for a 256mb -144pin SODIMM is going for $80 CDN (plus GST and PST of course).

I think at ramseeker, the prices were roughly $35-40 USD. After shipping (even to a friend in the States), I would end up maybe saving $10. Probably not worth the risk.

Not sure if you've got BestBuy in Calgary.

Yeah, unfortunatelly, I don't think we have bestbuy here in Calgary... And I agree with you that it's not woth the risk buying from macseek.com (ramseeker.com), not because we cannot trust them, but mainly because of taxes and customs...

Take a look at canadacomputers.com, they have soem good deals there...

Maybe you wanna try FutureShop? http://www.futureshop.ca/FSStoreLoca...mp;WLBS=fsweb7

If you find a website that has RAM for a lot cheaper than FutureShop: Write down the URL, show it to them and they will most likely match the price.

Futureshop doesn't normally sell RAM over 256 megs. Sometimes you get lucky though, they had a sale and I got 512 Megs for $99 over a year ago.
