Here's my dilemma:

If I buy a new iMac at local mall Apple store they can upgrade the memory but only to 768 (? is that the right amount) and not the full 1 gig because they don't usually stock the right combination of memory.

If I want the full gig of memory I will have to order online from the Apple store or go somewhere else.

So my questions are:

1. Will I notice the difference between 768 or whatever it is and the full gig of memory? Is it enough to steer me somewhere else?

2. Will it be a major hassle to add RAM later if I do notice the difference? And won't I just be throwing away one of the modules at that point?

Thank you for help This forum has been a great source of information as I switch back to the Mac after 10 years.

I would let the store max out the ram because it's not possible to open the machine and change the ram yourself. You would have to take it to a service center. They require special tools to open and the averege person does not have these. trust me.
