My brother has an old imac 500mhz G3, white case, running a dual boot of OS 9.2 and X. He has intemitent unexplained shut downs or they seem like to me temparary sleep black outs. Also, and the strangest of these computer quirks... the imac has two little speakers on the front just on either side, when placing a hand on each speaker to cover them up, after about 2 seconds of being covered, the mac shuts down into a kind of sleep mode. Still powered, the light continues to glow on and off until pressed, then the mac springs back to life!!
Things done to attempt to resolve this:
1. Disk first aid found and repaired some minor disk issues.
2. Hardware and memory testing: all OK
3. All power management features have turned off including in OS 9.2
If anyone has had this occur or think they might have a solution, please let me know, as my brother-in-law is threatening to go to the dark side... "windows" If this happens, I have failed, as I am the one who told him to get a Mac.
Thanks in advance for your comments and help.
