From xlr8yourmac.com:

http://www.falkemedia.com/cgi-bin/fo...num=1045243482

Looks like the mac radeon 7000 32 meg ROM somehow works for the 64 meg PC version. Anyone else try this? The cards are pretty cheap now.

I'm not sure about the Radeon 7000, but I do have a 64mb PCI Geforce 2mx on my 400 Yikes! as well as a 32mb Radeon Mac Edition, and even with twice the memory the 64mb card isn't much faster at all. My theory is that its not worth having all that memory if your still limited by a 33mhz PCI slot.

However I'm still curious as to whether a 64mb Radeon 7000 would be faster than a 64mb Geforce2MX. I hope to see some results with this.

i have a rage128 right now. since I can't find any proper radeon8500's to flash, this would be an easy and cheap fix....

whoa...you got a 64mb Geforce 2mx PCI flashed for mac use? the reason i ask is that i have a B&W (pretty much same as the Yikes!) and i have a Original Radeon Mac Edition. I've been looking for a 64mb card that could be flashed for mac use. i use 10.2.3 not os9. the question is: how does the geforce 2mx compare to the Original Radeon? faster? same? btw i'm sure the B&W and Yikes have one 66mhz PCI slot (where the main vid card would go) and the rest are 33mhz. and any links on how it was falshed? i have a pc near by where i can do this

ok..i looked around and i was wondering if anybody has flashed the PC Radeon 7500 64mb DDR PCI card? i've looked in xlr8yourmac.com but u cant no longer post anything so i ask here. if i'd like to try it..how would i come about it? i know there is a mac version of the 7500 but it is AGP. i wonder if that rom would allow the PCI PC version to work on a mac? hmm

I got it from a freind a while ago actually, he gave it to me without the box so I can't tell which brand or anything . I read somewhere that certain versions of the Geforce 2mx were able to work without flashing so this card may be one of them. The card wouldn't fit in my 66mhz slot, so I kept my Radeon Mac Edition (same as yours ) in there, and put the geforce 2 in a 33mhz slot. I only use it to run my secondary monitor, because the card is a little bit unstable (will freeze up some times, like when resetting video settings in medal of honor, or watching DIVX movies in that display) so if you do find one that will work, don't expect it to be perfect. Im running Jaguar just so ya know, and to answer your question about speed there is a SLIGHT, and I do emphasize slight, performance increase in Medal of Honor. In Quake 3 there's about a 25fps gain at 640x480 and it becomes slower than the Radeon at 1024x768. Probably because the Geforce will only fit in the 33mhz slot. Another thing could be the CPU bottleneck. It might be faster if it weren't on a 400mhz computer with a 100mhz fsb

The card itself has only 1 VGA port. its yellowish in color with a light blue piece surrounding the VGA out. It has a heatsink instead of a fan. Its recognised as a Geforce 2MX400 with all 64mb of video ram in the System profiler. I wish I could tell you what brand it was but my friend forgot he even gave it to me, let alone what it was . The only link I can give you is this one , which provides some help, but my card doesn't have a TV out and the link only talks about the AGP version.

If you have any more questions about the card just ask, I'll be happy to answer if I can.

In my honest opinion, though I don't think It is worth the trouble. There is very little speed boost over the Radeon, and It would probably be hard to find another one like it. One of the only reasons I like it so much, is because I can brag that I have a 64mb Geforce in my Yikes!

cheers!

Yeah, it would be awesome if we could get a radeon 7500 PCI card running in a mac. Apparently the people on the linked forum (above) are trying to do just that...

yeah i read that too! the 7500 PCI would surely increase the performance of my workhorse B&W...i guess we'll have to wait and see...and i read elsewhere i forget where..that they are also trying to do the Radeon 9000 PCI...i didnt even know they came in PCI variants..

I'm running a PC PNY Geforce 2MX 400, and It was one of the cards that worked for mac right out of the box, but barely. After properly flashing it its been great. I've tried my luck with 2 PC Radeon 8500's just recently to flash, but both of them arent flashable. Been a big hassel to me, and loss of money. Be real careful with what card ya buy!

PCMall has "open box"
PeeCee version of the built-by-ATI Radeon 7000 64MB for $39.99 (PC Mall Part #110030)
<http://www.pcmall.com/pcmall/shop/de...sp?dpno=110030>

"Free" after rebate UPS ground shipping expires at midnight PST 23 Feb.

A good deal for those who want the 64MB version, and only need the single SVGA port.
