Here is a real problem. Just bought a new IMac. Got it set up and tried to install Pagemaker 7.5 in classic. You need to start up in Classic mode. Well yhou cannot start up in classic mode? What do you do? I was told by Apple that there is not a real 9 system in classic anymore. How do I get pagemaker installed in my new IMac. No one at Adobe or Apple can help.

Any help from this form would be great..

Thanks, Alan

I dont know whether you have os 9 or not but if you want to find out the easy way is to restart the comp and hold down the option key to what os(s) you have installed then you can select which one. whether it be os 9 or X.

Most of the new Macs will not run in OS 9 in native mode, which is what you need. You can't install Pagemaker, unless you can get the machine to restart in OS 9, which you can't do. Try installing OS 9; I don't know if the new machines will allow you to do that, due to possible firmware limitations. If that doesn't work, you're SOL. Apple is slowly but surely moving away from OS 9.

1) Insert your Restore CD 1 and search for an invisible file named "OS9General.dmg" and mount the image.

2) The General OS 9 Content disc is now mounted. Copy the "System Folder" to your hard drive.

3) Open System Preferences -> Startup Disk and you should be able to select the OS 9.2.2 System Folder.

4) Restart into 9

That's not true.

Holding down the Option key lets you choose between bootable volumes; it will only let you boot to the OS that has been blessed on a given volume. If you have multiple OSes on one volume, Option will NOT let you choose between them.

I just bought a new Powerbook, and Had similar troubles. Could not boot into OS 9 to install OS 9, even though I had the CD.

In the end I simply copied the system folder off my year old iMac, works fine. Do you have any other Mac's that you could copy the system folder from?
