My brother in law called me tonight, he wants to buy a new Powermac, he's a PC user.
If the dual 1.42gig was out he'd buy that, but he wants a computer for a project he's working on.
Should I tell him to wait or go for the dual 1.25gig? He sounded pretty excited because he wants to get the 20" cinema display after seeing it today.
I just don't know if there will be a big difference in speed between the two,

There won't be a HUGE difference, but definitely noticeable, I'd say, considering the L3 cache is larger on the 1.42. If he's got the money, just hold out a little longer. If he's really patient, wait until August.

In the everyday OSX usage, you probably won't notice much difference. If he needs a computer now, definately get the 1.25. I have it and it's been wonderful so far.
Why do people assume the 970 will come out in Mac computers in Aug? Jan04 at the absolute earliest.

We're not sure, just like you don't really know for certain, either. No one does. But the 970 does go into production months before the next Macworld, so there's always that possibility of the announcement, and maybe a possible release late September? You never know, no one knows. Still if he can hold out till August, new Power Macs are bound to appear, so tough it out if you can, I always say.
