I have a Cube with a stock standard Rage 128 Pro. What is the lowest-end video card I can replace it with to drive a 20" Cinema Display's 1680 x 1050 resolution?

Note: it can be DVI only (that is, I don't have to have an ADC port on the video card) because of the DVI-ADC adapter.

Why do you want to replace the stock Rage anyway, I assume it's because you want Quartz Extreme, right?
The cheapest would be a PC GeForce2 MX or MX400 (not MX200!) that you'll have to flash, there are some available with DVI others without, so be careful which one you take.

He probably wants to replace the Rage because it does not support the 20" display. FYI, neither does the Radeon that came with my Cube.

I suggest a geforce 2mx mac card or geforce 2mx twinview.

want to know why?

1. DVI->adc adapter costs $150 (only if you already have one)
2. PC cards flashed to mac are trivial
3. twinview can use both plugs at the same time (expanded desktop, but your cube vga plug dongle won't work anymore)
4. overall less cost.

odd, you can afford the 20 inch cinema but not the GeForce 3 to go with it?

Having the GeForce 3 in a Cube requires a fan, which partly defeats the purpose of the "peaceful" machine. Less powerful video cards do not need a fan.

Besides, the reason I can afford good products is by not wasting money on things I don't need. The Cube runs Mac OS 9 and a select number of apps which do not include high OpenGL demands.

Thanks, Mac Zealot, for the well supported recommendations.

Apple sells its DVI>ADC converter for $99 now.
