After comparison of a 2.5 P4 HP with XP (512 RAM) with the new iMac 17 (256 RAM) at the local CompUSA store, I was very surprised how much faster one could pull up apps on the iMac vs the HP. Of course, the iMac had many other favorable quality features (HW and SW)!
After considerable time and research (with much help from forums...THANKS!), I plan to go to local Apple Store and DO THE SWITCH (after almost 20 years with PC's)with an iMac 17 with 1G RAM.
My only remaining question is how do I hook up my current speaker system (Monsoon Planar Media 9 2.1)to the iMac? and would the pro speakers be over-ridden?
I realize that there are 3 jacks (speaker mini, headphones, and audio line in) but not sure what goes where?
Thanks for all the forum help!

Regular audio out jack.
If you plug both in, whatever is plugged in second will override the first one.
For example, you plug in speakers, and then the pro speakers, the pro speakers override the regular ones.
This is for a reason
Sometimes, though, pro speakers won't work when something is plugged into the headphone jack.
And yeah, your 2.1 system will work just fine. Congratulations on your decision and welcome to the mac world!
I know you will enjoy your new imac!

Make sure to buy an extra 256- or 512-megabyte memory module for your iMac. It'll make things a lot faster. OS X can use all the memory it can get. If you don't mind shopping around and installing the memory yourself, you can find better prices on 266-megahertz DDR SO-DIMM's on the web. Try www.crucial.com for high-quality memory.

very VERY good note. ^^^ Do that if you have the $$$.
Also remember one of the funny things about macs is sometimes they get FASTER with updates rather than slower lol.

Was planning 512MHz BTO for internal slot, then buy another 512MHz from producer such as Crucial. Thanks much for the helpful response. We switchers need all the help we can get!
