OK, I've searched the forums and KB at Apple and I did'nt see this one so... I have an iMac DVSE 400mhz, 512Mb Ram, 13gb internal, three external FW drives, OS 9.2.2 and version 10.2.3 for X. Startup is always slow, always in "Safe" mode and NO SOUND. This started after the upgrade from 10.1 If I startup in verbose mode (holding Cmd V) it starts up much faster and has sound. Except for HP drivers (G85 AIO and a PS 130) it's a vanilla X setup with only Apple's software and an app named ReaderwareVW for cataloging my Vid collection (great app by-the-by!) which is the only reason I've switched to X. I've zapped the pram, rebuilt the desktop, checked and repaired permissions, fdsk-y and pulled the last of my hair OUT without a fix. Now I can do the cmd-v forever but I'd like to know why this is happening and what, in the opinion of the braintrust is the downside/potential problems with always startingup in verbose mode. No sound when I switch too Classic either but this problem does not appear when I boot in OS 9.
Thanks in advance for the assistance
