I have a Lucent WaveLAN silver that I want to use in a CRT iMac. I already have the WaveLAN in the Apple supplied Airport daughter-card. The problem is that I can not fit it in the iMac's supplied daughter-card holster. The WaveLAN has an external antennae attached, so it wont slide in unless I can get rid of the plastic holster, which is attached to the motherboard pretty well. It looks like it is screwed onto the mobo from the other side, so I guess the only way to get rid of it neatly would be to take the whole iMac apart. Is it worth it to do this?

The airport card is not a standard PCMCIA card, so the Lucent won't work in the airport card adapter. Get an airport card from ebay or new from apple...

Obviously.

Your solution to buy a proper Airport card is not going to work for me. I want to use the card I already have. It would be a shame to let this one go to waste. I just need to get the bracket off. I just wanted to know if anyone has experience removing these brackets - or, if I am the first one - to leave information for those who want to make the same modification.

sure, you can remove the white plastic posts that help carry the daughtercard.

Remove the motherboard, remove the posts from below, and reconnect the motherboard.

Tedious-
and I think you'll find that the airport slot is not a pcmcia/pc card slot, so your silver wavelan card may not even work once you physically fit it in.

I'm not positive of this, but it's been the advice that's been handed out before. Please try and find out, or- I do have an airport card here that I bought and used once for three days with an iBook800... it's still in the box...
