Hi,

Just got a new 17" Imac, and just wondering, how do I get games like Wolfenstein and Star Wars JK2 to play in wide screen if possible?

I've been playing wc3 on a 17 iMac in widescreen .. the resoultions was one of the options in wc3's video setup menu.

Perhaps you can set a custom resolution in those games if the wide is not offered?

In Quake 3 Engine Games (Wolfenstein, Quake 3, and I assume Jedi Knight 2 etc.) you need to go to the folder the application was installed in in the applications folder and for example with Wolfenstein open the Main subfolder and in that folder open the wolfconfig.cfg (wolfconfig_mp.cfg for multiplayer) file.

look for the lines:
seta r_customwidth "1440"
seta r_customheight "900"

They normally have values of like 1600 x 1200 but you can use whatever value needed (the above is the value for the 17inch iMac). After this go to file:save and then close this window. When you get into your Quake 3 engine game hold the control key and hit the ~ button. This will bring up the engine of the games interface. Type /r_mode -1 (then hit enter) and the type /vid_restart (then hit enter). That should do it (Note with a game like wolfenstein this has to be done twice, once for mp wolf and once for single player wolf since they are launced and controlled by seperate cfg files)

As for Warcraft 3 you can set the resolution to 1440x900 in the options part of the game.

I hope this helps, good luck!

Can anyone get any reasonable performance at this resolution?

If I try and run JKII at the full resolution it's extremely choppy.

Turn down some of the detail, texturing and/or filtering settings.

I found the key is to just not have very high texture detail, in Soldier Of Fortune II and Jedi Knight the 'Very high' texture settings nail even high end graphics cards.

So if anyone else have problems with these two games on perfectly capable h/w this is why. Set the textures to merely 'High'!
