OK. I started a thread of this name a week or 2 back. It has since fallen off the edge of the MacNN world, but as I just know some of you have been losing sleep, I wanted to let you know I'm all right - I pulled through ;-)
And I bought that G4/533 DP
I'd asked how the (fairly rare, it would seem) 533 DP compared with the 733 (which I'd previously owned) and the general consesus was the 733 owbers were fairly happy with their machines, and 533 DP owners, likewise.
Along the way, I heard about XBench, which is great, and I'll be submitting my results soon.
I took the plunge and bought this 533 DP - and in the process of moving my files over, I lost my MacNN log/pass, which is why I've been quiet for a while (and why I'm sure you've all been a-worried....;-))
So what am I waffling on about? Just to say that for me, Mac OS X 10.2.4 on this machine is in every way a significantly superior experience from any other Mac I've used over an extended period (iMac 800, Quicksilver 733, 800, and also my previous Digital Audio 733)
Maybe it's the DP thing that is suited to my liking to run many app's at once, maybe these 7410 chips are still better than the longer pipelined successors for many tasks, I don't know, but I do know this is a great Mac OS X experience. Fluid, Fun, Fast.
For the next day or two at least, I'm happy...:-) All I need to do now is replace that Radeon fan with SOMETHING QUIETER!!!
Thanks for caring...
