I'm thinking about picking up one of the remaindered Dual 867 MDD from macconnection.com since they've got them for the same price as the newer single gig. The dual appears to have the same L3 cache and everything, so I'm thinking that has got to be a bit faster than a single 1 gig.

It's just the most recent line that won't boot 9, right? (single 1 gig, dual 1.2 and dual 1.4)

My older Sawtooth 450 has always been a little flakey, and lately it's getting worse. I may need to put it out to pasture, and the Dual 867 seems like a really good deal for 1500.00 US dollars.

AFAIK it's just the current FW800 machines that will not boot OS 9.

I would definitely go for the dual-867 over a single 1GHz. My 867DP was an upgrade from a dual-450 and there is a huge difference in speed. I have actually thought about picking up a discontinued one too, to replace my Cube at home.

Be sure to file for the power supply exchange program, however, as they are a trifle L O U D .

That's what I thought, I was just having a brain-lapse and needed to check.

You'll never, ever pry my Cube from my sweaty hands! Go for a Powelogix 1Gig upgrade. That's what I plan to do as soon as I can afford it.

Well, mine either; that's why I'm having such a hard time deciding what to do. I would never get RID of my Cube, but it is starting to feel pretty pokey compared to my work tower and my PowerBook. I have been looking at upgrades, but the prices of the towers are really, really tempting. I mean, when you can get a brand-new dual-867 for $1,495...
