For the last few months occasionaly when I restart my iMac the image on the monitor would become blurred. Lines would not be straight and icons would look like there was too much colour. This could usually be fixed by turning off, unplugging and then restarting it (I gather this degausses it). However yesterday (coincidentally the day the power substation next to my house blew up!) this happened and it wouldn't right itself.

The power plant problem could lead me to think there was a magnetic field problem but the degaussing and iMac undergoes when restarting should fix this. Is it possible to do a manual degauss or such? If not, then I believe I'll need to take it to get repaired. Does anyone have a guestimate of how much a new internal monitor for an iMac would cost?

Also, is it dangerous to continue using the computer if one of the electron guns was to be out of alignment?

Cheers
Pring

Fixed it myself.

Turns out it was a firmware issue, very odd.

Case is documented at http://discussions.info.apple.com/We...Ts.8@.3bb9997d
