hello everybody !

this is where we collect info on 4x DVD-Rs to be able to buy the cheapest, best quality media to burn with our new IMAC.

i'ms still waiting for delivery of my IMAC/1Ghz/1Gb RAM, and i'm willing to buy DVD-Rs already !

please share your burning experience with us and post:

QUALITY vs. QUANTITY results per brand
...how many coasters ?

STAND-ALONE DVD PLAYER COMPATIBILITY ?
...did you try the DVD on your home DVD player ? ...and your friend's ?

DVD BURNER MODEL ?
...superdrive ?...sony ?...

SOFTWARE FOR BURNING/TECHNIQUE ?
...iDVD3 ?, others...?
...burning parameters ?...(maybe some work and others don't...)

URL LINK TO THE ONLINE SHOP where you bought the media
...were they reliable ? fast delivery ?...

thanks for your advices and please add other fields to help defining a reference guide to DVD-R burning !

...ok, here's my 1st suggestion to get info on DVD-R media.

they have just a very few 4x DVD-R reviewed, but you'll find info on plenty of other DVD-R slower media burning.

check it out !

I bought some 4x DVD-R generic from www.allmediaoutlet.com. Works great for data and video DVDs with my Formac Devideon which uses the 4x Pioneer 105/A05 drive. Apple uses both the Pioneer and Sony 4x burners, not sure which one you'll end up with. But Allmedia also has a demo 10pack of their 4x media. It costs a little more ($2.30 each).

I've also bought DVD-R from www.meritline.com too. No problems with any of their media either, but both companies use the same brand media (currently Ritek) and also about the same price. Meritline carries more brands of discs while AllMedia is barely cheaper and carries the smaller 3" DVD-R. Those 2 stores are about the cheapest for 4x medai that I've found. And their larger bulk packs save more with free ground shipping and prices down to $1.74 each. If you're looking for the 2x DVD-RW discs, tough luck. You'll have to buy genuine Pioneer as there aren't any generics yet. The older 1x DVD-RW can be found in generic, but who wants to wait an hour? DVD-RW discs won't play in a standalone DVD player. They're good for data backups though........joe
