Has anyone tried putting a hard drive larger than 128GB into a 17" iMac? I'm curious whether it's got the newer IDE interface capable of accessing such large drive sizes. (In other words: I'm already planning my upgrade.)
Apple hasn't updated the technical documentation about the iMac for the new 1 GHz versions. The old versions had a ATA/66 controller, and you need a ATA/133 controller to address drives over 128 gigs.
Just headed over to xlr8yourmac.com's Drive Compatibility Database, one guy just upgraded the HD to 185GB (IBM 180GXP). Meanwhile, he did a partition of the drive. They even has an "iMac G4 take apart guide" too. (I assume all iMac G4 are the same)
