Hi all. Posted this in the OS X forum, but it's increasingly looking like it's not an OS problem. Here's the original post:

For the second time in a couple of months, my Mac (G4/533...stock ATI rage pro video) has lost its display settings and reverted my screen to 800x600--with NO OTHER OPTIONS available.

It does the SAME THING in OS 9, and there's some odd looking distortion on the right-hand side of the screen.

I'm trying to figure out if this is the OS or the video card.

Zapping the PRAM now to see if that does anything.

Cheers

had this happen to me on my B&W g3 with Radeon Mac Edition. when u start up you mac..do you turn on your monitor on before or after the start up chime? if you turn on you monitor after your computer starts up then you will loose your settings. try this. turn on your monitor first then turn on your mac. this works for me...its annoying but i cant figure anything else out

Harumph. My Mac is almost never turned off. I just put it to sleep. It's not unusual for me to go weeks without a reboot or a power-down.

Cheers
