Hi all I'm pondering my Apple purchase, maybe you can help me decide. I recently started a business here in Oregon. As such I need a new computer for my business, I'm tired of Microsoft.

Here's what I'll be using the system for, Quickbooks 5.0, Appleworks, email, and iCal. I don't like Flat Panel screens although the Apple Cinema displays do look tempting. Therefore I've ruled out iMacs. I have a Sony CRT display that I could use.

I like the fact that the Power Macs should be able to run the next 2 OS releases with no problem. I would to be able to use the System for 3 years until next purchase.

I just got off the phone with the Apple Business division and they gave me a business price cut.

1) A Stock 1ghz, minus the modem $1398 (reg price $1,499)
2) A Stock Dual 1.25 minus the Modem $1873(reg price 1,999)

What do you all think and recommend? Thanks to all for your advice.

dual.
It's got 2.5X the processing power, and that will come in handy later on.

Ditto.

OS X is at home on duals, uses them to their full extent. Under heavy loads a single processor will choke when doing several tasks. Duals will spread it out and you won't take a big performance hit.

Exactly. Get an eMac, its cheap, has a CRT and it'll definately keep you through atleast the next 4 10.X updates.

The only problem with that is the lack of expansion. You don't get 4 bays for hard drives, 2 bays for 5.25 drives, 4 PCI slots, 4 DIMM slots and upgradeable graphics. And theoretically down the road an easy processor upgrade.

I appreciate everyones sincere input. Agent69 is correct I don't need a dual 1.25 rig, probably an iMac. My problem and it's weird but I don't like the lamp shade look nor Flat Panels screens. I was interested in getting an eMac but my reasoning is similar to derekn and G4ME. I want my rig since my business is paying for it to last at least 3 years. I want it to run the next 2-3 OS releases with no trouble. And if I need to upgrade the CPU it can be done in the future. And the small discount from Apple, with free shipping and no sales tax makes the whole deal easier to justify rather than buying a closed non upgradable system. I wish Apple would release a new CUBE. They were expensive but man they were cool.

I'm probably going to need an easy to use program that will allow me to create Business Logo, brochure, business cards so I can take it to a professional print shop for printing. Any suggestions?

aodbe illustrator if most of your graphics are line art. Add on adobe photoshop if you plan on doing photographic type images/graphics.

Thanks for the offer but I've made my decision to wait on Apple's announcements this June.
