check out this bullshit..... i have a B&W G3 with BUILT IN firewire and i cant use it for firewire target disk mode?!!
damn i'm pissed

yeah, yeah, i know ethernet etc...... but still it has built in firewire ports, and i cant use them in this fashion? it just doesnt make sense......

same with my Yikes! G4. Just use a crossover ethernet cable instead.

do you want a reason? it's not supported by the B&W's firmware. just like you can't boot from firewire drives on the B&W - it just isn't initialized in time. it's not a crippling issue - it's that the extra features weren't added until later.
if you have OSX, you can use apple's IP over Firewire for Firewire-speed networking (at least as much of that speed that a B&W can crank out.. you'll probably max out at around 5 megs per second).

try that. yes, it works on B&W's.

wow.. your've really been wronged! they should do a mass recall of all old computers and install features that wern't avaliable when they were built! I'm so pissed too.. my G4 only has a AGP 1x slot in it.. I meen what the ****.. they have 4x slots now! and why the hell dosn't my 233 imac have a 17" lcd screen.. I meen hello, imacs have had lcd's now for over a year!
