Just picked up iMac 17 1GHz G4 with 1G RAM from local Apple Store. My first Mac after 19 yrs of PC's...yes my PC crashed 3 nights ago requiring changing winsock in the registery (a dangerous thing to change!). Apple Store provided one hour of personal training and set up. Have just started and much to learn...but much easier to setup, load, and transfer than PC's. Even though the iMac was more expensive especially with certain added SW that I need for business apps, time is money and the inability to multitask cause many heartburns, headaches and lost productivity.
Since I use computers for personal and business (out of my home), I am networking old PC and iMac as I transition to the land of Mac. One question is "should I stay with Road Runner (have had very good tech service) or switch to EarthLink since they support Mac better and have dial-up in case cable is down??????????

I would stick with Road Runner, but I'm not entirely disinterested there... I'm contracted out for national tech support with them.
RR may not scream "we like Macs!" as much as Earthlink, but they do have real support. They'll help you with IE (should you choose to use it) and Mail, mainly. There really isn't much to do to get it online!
They don't have documentation on Safari yet, but that's understandable - it's only in beta! I imagine that there will be proper support if/when Safari is included with every Mac. Not that you need much... at least as of now, the preferences and menus are so simple that even absolute novices have a shot at configuring things.

My uncle has roadrunner cable running through a LinkSys wireless router.
His PB Ti400 and my PB Ti Ghz connect flawlessly via airport. The 2 pcs he has required all kinds of hassle to set up!
Anyway, I've had no problems with Roadrunner and Macs.
p.s....I assume you know that if you are running X, have airport, and are connected to the cable modem that your little iMac can serve as a wireless base station? Just point and click in sharing preference pane. It's cool!

Your Earthlink account will be running off TimeWarner's cables, so it really doesn't matter--if you can receive better support and a cheaper price from Earthlink, then go with Earthlink. RR also includes dialup, don't they?

i look in your general direction

Road Runner worked well...iMac so easy to set up. Now in the process of transferring files via sharing files via router plus some by CD's. For other switchers, best to use CD-R's rather than CD-RW's.
After 5 days, very pleased with iMac especially ability to have many apps open at one time. Only one problem was that Excel one time had error message and had not saved some work (even though auto recover on for Excel worksheets). Hopefully this is one time aberration.
