There's an upcoming invasion.

The (pregnant) secretary at my girlfriend's school died suddenly of a brain aneurism this morning.

And I'm more depressed about the discontinuation of the CRT iMac than either of these.

This is such a fantastic design. The one I'm typing this on in my bedroom, a 3 year old 400 Mhz, is still going strong.

It runs Jag fine, like actually really well. Do 3 year old PCs run XP fine?

It works perfectly for the "bedroom" things I do with it: surfing, email, iApps, AppleWorks.

The hard drive is a little creaky, but otherwise, its fanless operation is also perfect for the bedroom. I was so looking forward to being able to get a nice fresh one when this one dies, and have that serve faithfully for another 4 years.

Arrrgghhh!

(Note: once the invasion actually *starts*, I'll probably be more depressed about that)

You can still buy it in the education store for $749.

Also it has not been removed from the Apple Store Europe.

My 400 MHz iMac is still chugging along, just not as snappy as I'd like it to be. I've got 1 GB of RAM coming for it tomorrow and I'm hoping that will really help things. Thinking about adding a 7200 rpm HD, the extra space will be nice and the faster spindle speeed will be nice too.

Yeah, I just heard this on TechTV's Screensavers. This is Mac relevant news, what I would like to know is why it wasn't on MacNN yesterday or at time of this posting. Blah.

As of Wednesday morning (GMT/CET) the CRT G3 iMac was also removed from the UK and European Apple Stores.

All Apple stores, the US, UK, and etc still list it as available in the Education Store. I've noticed a lot of Apple dealers no longer advertise it for sale either - I guess they don't stock it anymore.

You were right! Although when I first put in the 1 GB, my iMac beeped 3 times, flashed it's power button and refused to boot. I try different arrangments of the new and old RAM, and now it's working great with 1 GB. Anybody else had this?
