I had a PC flashed Radeon 8500 that kept overheating and had the phantom monitor syndrome as we call it, but I have switched to a real mac 8500 (supposidly, got it off ebay) and I still have the phantom monitor even with zapping the pram a crapload. In both X and 9...anyone else have this problem?

What is "phantom monitor syndrome"?

Make sure the fan in both the Mac and the Radeon is running.
When I first flashed an 8500 the fan didn't spin initially.
It's running now though.

Also, my power supply fan in the G4 had failed so I had to
replace that causing overheating.

I got no phantom images on the card but one hard drive has
been oversensitive ever since - I can't really use it as a
boot drive but it can be used as a storage drive.

the Phantom Monitor Syndrome is when the Card thinks theres a second monitor plugged in, when theres not. So the computer treats you as if you have dual monitors. There isnt even a second video port on this card besides the S-Video. Also, I've realized when I wake it from sleep the video comes back all grainy. Maybe I'll try restoring it.

Can't you just disable the second monitor in the display prefs panel?
