Hi! Well first i would like to say that im not a mac user but i am trying to help someone who got cable modem yesterday. Ill try to be as helpful as possible to get a answer :-) .
the iMac is a 350 mhz os9, ie 4.01 (do i need to upgrade this?)
yesterday i wasnt here but from what i hear there was 3 techs here and couldnt get it to work.
tcp/ip is enable and so is appletalk
everything is connected properly although i do notice that on the cable modem the pc link light is not on.
is there any preferences i need to change to tell the mac that yes there is a ethernet cable plugged in? i read a post (either here or on apples forums) that the ethernet port could be bad. Could this be the case?
Ive tried the usb connection but dont know if its installed correctly the device manager says a thomson dcm245 is installed but the modem is an rca :-/. but at least i have a pclink on but now no activity
any help would be greatly appreciated.
thanks

edit- i also ran the earthlink wizard and it said that there were tcp/ip and ppp errors so i said fix it and there are still ppp errors after reset and now the dial up number is xxx-xxxx xxx-xxxx its duplicated... where do i go to fix this? thx

in the tcp/ip settings, are you using DHCP? i think that's usually how cable modems connect, if you don't have fixed IP.

and in the settings, you are connecting via ethernet, right?

appletalk doesn't realy need to be enabled for the modem to work.

if you have the above settings, have you tried turning off the modem, turning off the computer, check all connections, then turn the modem on, then turn the computer back on?
