I'm a new switcher to Mac and plan to buy the new 1GHz iMac soon. I would like to know whether it is possible for me to replace the internal harddisk or Superdrive myself in future.

Fyi, I'm an experienced PC DIY user.

I definitely won't do these things on day one, but I would like to know the possibility. Based on my experiences on using PCs, these are components which I most likely will replace. For example, it is very likely that I want to replace the internal hard disk with a bigger capacity unit (we can find 200G IDE drive these days).

I know that I can do these with the PowerMac, but the price of iMac is much more attractive and I just don't need the fastest Mac machine.

You can do it, but it's a warranty-voiding procedure.

Hey

It is very easy to do.

Make sure you have some thermal paste, as you need to replace some when putting it all back together.

If you have a copy of the service manual, a child could do it.
