Well the issue is Settled. The New Parts Are here! I just got a call! Mines ON ITS WAY. So the Diesel is a footnote in History! The King Is Dead Long Live the King.

Now the 1.42 can start garnering the praise it deserves! Since I've taken ownership its been Silent Fast and Stable a Complete Joy in all respects. Speeds are such that OSX feels like OS9 used to, its a Real pleasure to use! Very Quiet for a machine of this Caliber. This 1.42 is a breath of Fresh Air! THIS IS VERRY Sweet News :-)

When I read your posts on g4noise.com I almost registered there to tell you that you are mistaken.

The "dieseling" has to do with the mounting of the fan in the case. It should be mounted with rubber-plates or likewise. The problem are the vibrations that are transferred to the case. Put your fan out of the case, give him 9 volts and you will hear, that there is no "dieseling". Blame Apple for mounting fans like this.

Your new fan will have exactly the same problem if you put it in the same way as your old one.

I have a FW800 myself, so I know what I'm talking about.

I have No play in ny fan mounts whatsoever That is sound. All Noise eminates from the Core of the Fan. The new Papst Fan Kits mount exactly the same way. Noise is Not present!!

Sorry guys I know you are talking about the 1.42 machines but I just got my 1.25 (OS 9 Boot) on Friday and I have the knocking sound from the big fan that cools the cpu. Does the Apple exchange programme change the big fan or the PSU (mine is a Samsung unit)?

I have looked to see if the fan is loose but the rattle noise is coming from the core of the fan!
MaBook 1.83 (100 gig - 2 gig)

No rubber plate mounting necessary. Sorry dude, new fan fixed the mini-Mac truck fan noise. Try it!!

Now the 1.42 is fast and quiet, even for audio work!
