Now the question is, is this a new position that they now realize the value of, or did the last guy get canned?

Sr. acoustic engineer with experience of running an acoustic lab, versed in the requirements for the chamber meeting all ISO standards and knowledgeable on the design of computer products in noise reduction techniques.

Masters required, PhD preferred in acoustics or similar discipline. Must have worked on major computer product programs with responsibility for acoustics.
A minimum of five years of experience.
I'm not even sure they need a dedicated engineer. Just a guy with some common sense, and a basic level of repect for their professional customers

Actually they probably need to SACK one of their bean-counters...

...the one that said, "lets save $5 by using this cheap & noisy Delta fan, instead of this overpriced Panaflo. Doesn't matter that we'll lose $millions in lost sales because the damn things were too noisy."

(No offense to any accountants watching. Enjoy auditing Enron did you?)

Of course, if I got the job, I'd give the contract to Zalman, whose excellent noise reduction parts I used to build my bitchin' PC... (still like my dual-1.25 better though).

The new fans in the trade in program are made by Pabst. German quality at its best. Pabst also supplies the motors for the Revox & Stellvox tape recorders and the Thorens turn tables so they know their stuff

There are good acoustic guys at Sindelfingen, Germany. But they work for DaimlerChrysler, as you said, german quality at its best.
