I gave this computer to my sister a couple years ago and it has served her just fine for email and a little surfing. Recently it started making a mid-range squeal when she starts the computer. The squeal starts just as the extensions start to load and continues until the desktop appears and she starts an application...From then on everything works okay, until the next time she starts up the Mac.
Has anyone experienced this? I haven't tried any maintenance yet...if no one has a solution, I will try zapping the pram, rebuilding the desktop, and then run Diskwarrior, Techtool, or Norton's Utilities to try and cure the problem.
