Looking for a cheap Ethernet card for a Beige G3 DT running OS X.

Want 10/100, rather than the built in (really slow) 10... suffering from it.
I always use protection when fscking my Mac... Do you?

anyone know if it will work under OS X?

Don't need wake on lan or anything... Just 10/100 support.

Any card based on a DEC 21x4x (tulip) chip should work, as the OEM Apple 10/100 cards for Beige G3s were based on them. I'd sell you the one I had, but it's actually doing time in my father in law's Compaq right now

The link you posted shows the card as based on 3Com's Tornado chipset, which didn't work with OS X when I had one in my hands a while back. But this was in the 10.0.x days, so maybe worth a shot. But I've never seen 3Com drivers for any ethernet card in 9 or X, so don't get your hopes up.

OK, the card appears to be a 3C905C

I found this:

Anyone know where i can download the compiled driver for Mac OS X 10.1?

This is more of a SW, than hardware question, hence redirect here:

I am using a cCompusa card that costs about $15 and came with an ethernet cable. I have had no problems using it ... I use the drivers from Realtek for the 8139 chipset. It was recommended to me by a forum and I recomend it to you.

This weekend, i purchased a D-Link DFE-530TX+ PCI NIC for my aging 6500. at Best Buy it's $14.99 with a $5 mail in rebate. so $9.99 total. it's 10/100 and it comes with both OS9 and OSX drivers. worked first try with my 6500. um, i think you have to make sure you get the "+" version.

stay away from realtek cards on a beige g3.

while you get basic support and you don't generally run into problems, i get kernel panics often.

If I'm transferring a document to/from the g3 over the local network, after a certain ammount of data has been transferd over a short period of time, it'll kernel panic.

If I'm transfering a large file, I'm lucky if I make it over 100mb before a panic. If I'm sending a print job, I only make it until 3 before the g3 needs a restart, etc.

I just ditched the realtek in favor for an Asante FriendlyNet 696. Seems to be working well so far.
