After 3 wks with iMac 17 (procured with 1G RAM), first problem occurred last Saturday when could not load apps...called Apple Care and what a change from PC tech. svc...first phone answered promptly, only had to provide minimum info to get started, and able to solve problem the first time. The issue was solved by disk utility and problem was Volume Bit Map...whatever that was???

Latest, sometime today could not upload picture on website due to "Systems Memory too Low" How could this be since I have 1G RAM...I did have 4-5 apps open but this is the main reason I switched...for multitasking???? After I closed two of the apps, no problem...I wonder if I should have called Apple Care or assume just a blib?????

Definitely run Disk First Aid again,

and consider calling AppleCare- this is not a normal behavior for a person having as much RAM as you do, and I presume you have gigs of free disk space.

If you were out of your free AppleCare phone support, I would tell you to get a disk repair utility like the ones at http://www.alsoft.com
If this post is in the Lounge forum, it is likely to be my own opinion, and not representative of the position of MacNN.com.

I can't imagine what my be the problem with "Systems memory too low" message you got. I only have 384mb of ram in an old g3 iMac and regularly run 10-12 apps simultaneously (and have run up to 20 .. just to see how the OS would handle it) .. and I've never seen that message.

Thanks for the suggestion...opened 12 apps and checked the Process Viewer...memory usage was 35% The Systems Memory Error message only happened (albeit briefly) once.

what web browser were you using? I have seen IE do that before, it is some kind of glitch with IE. were you browing a website,or SENDING a pic. I have seen it where you get hte memory to low in IE,but in any other web browser it will show a red x showing that pic is either not there or corrupt.

Delete the cached pages and files in IE.

There exists a similar bug in the PeeCee version of IE that prevents saving images in .jpg format (defaults to .gif) when the 'allowed' amount of IE cache filespace would be exceeded.

You can increase the amount of disk space that IE can use for caching web content - but I don't think it solves the problem...it merely delays the problem.

Mine is set to 100MB, if that matters.

Thanks for the suggestions...cleared cache and reset from 10MB to 100MB...no wonder I had the problem with such low cache...THANKS!
