What sort of usage for those 1-7 days ? If you're only going to spend a small amount of time on it, a place like Kinko's will typically have ones you can sit at in there office and use (for a per-minute fee ... which could end up costing a LOT if you need to use it heavily).

Well, a quick google search on "rent an iMac chicago" brought up This place *note: their site's dropdowns don't work with Safari .. use IE if you have it
Other than that, I'd say call the local apple store and ask them where you could rent (they might even rent you one themselves)

hell, the dropdowns didnt work and I'm using IE6 in WinXP.
but anyways...last year I got some quotes for renting a Powerbook and was shocked at the cost. It seems the companies prefer something on the order of a 6month term before the price starts looking reasonable. A week is gonna be REALLY expensive - because a month sure was.

Try Rentsys. They are based in Texas, but will rent anywhere in the US. They just sub-contract the rental out to a local computer shop. I have rented equipment from them before and never had a problem. Try to negotiate a deal. I've always got them to lower their asking price. Just tell them that you've never rented from them and if things go well you will rent from them again. I bet you could get a Gumdrop iMac for around $200 for 7 days. They will even deliver the computer to you for an extra $75.
