hi gang,

i just purchased a cube off of ebay configured with:

500mghz

1.5 gig ram

geforce 3 video card

airport card

i have had it for a couple of days and it runs and looks fantastic.

i just ordered a 1.2 giga design upgrade card. my question is should i overclock it 1.33 and are there any known problems i should look out for and do i need to do anything else other then swap cards. do i have to download any firmware, enable cache etc...

thank you in advance.

You should unorder that ASAP. from what I read, the gigadesigns won't FIT into the cube. It won't fit!! Damnit Jim, she can't take much more of this!

Send it back! Cancel!

You need to get a sonnet or powerlogix board for the cube. From what people on cubeowner have been saying, the sonnets seem to be working a lot better than the powerlogix's right now. Make sure you get a RevB sonnet 1.2g4.

Good luck,

He's absolutely right! Also make sure it's a Sawtooth (or something similar) that actually fits into the Cube. Sonnet's the way to go, but keep in mind they're pretty expensive. I think Cube-Zone might have some more information. Happy hunting!

(Didn't you know there's also a SuperDrive for the Cube? Far out!)

big hugs and thank you guys.

i confirmed with owc that the giga does not fit the cube.

since the sales person recommended it, they will not give me a hassle in returning it and gave me a fedex number to return it.

i didn't open the packaging so everyting was refunded in full.

thanks again for saving me a whole bunch of aggravation.

regards,

chung

like they said, powerlogix and sonnet have cards that'll fit in the Cube if you want to bump up the processor. i have a 1ghz powerlogix upgrade that works great, except for the infamous wake-from-sleep bug that has killed my cube's ability to wake from sleep. (do a search in this forum if you are interested in details)

If you're upgrading a 500mHz, you want to sell me your old card so I can upgrade my 450?

I want to go faster, but I don't want a fan!

More than likely your'll never know the dif between 450 and 500... I meen the hasle in getting that thing apart and the risk of breaking something isn't really worth it for 50mhz.. If you really want.. try overclocking it, but I'd sugest leaving the poor thing be.

Call me a danger man if you like, I've already got a Radeon 9000 running in there. Without a fan. Wild eh?

500mHz is a 10% increase over what I've got. I'll give it a shot.
