Before the MDDs appear the Quicksilvers were the greatest macs outside, then apple introduce the MDDs, great look, more fasters, and more capacity.

the price went down on quicksilvers, I mean, I remember seeing a dual800mhz quicksilver for $1125.00 on any on line store...

SOMETHING HAPPENS...

the new MDDs are on sale. and when I check the online store to see the price of the quicksilver, it WENT UP!!! WAY UP!!!!

i mean, the same machine(with more RAM and MORE HD CAPACITY, was about $2100.00

SAY WHAT???

Why suddenly quicksilvers are better than MDDs??? Why everybody wants one?

it is true that the brand new MDDs are great for video and graphics, and nothing more???

somebody explain me this... I don't get it.

this is what I've heard & seen:

1) MDD last generation had loud fans
2) MDD new generation don't boot OS9
3) MDD DDR ram is not significantly faster (but now actually cheaper, so this is no longer a price factor)
4) Quicksilver vs. MDD last gen: same FW, same Superdrive.
5) When FW800 drives come out for the new MDD's, I hear the cables will be extremely expensive (75$). Maybe not as affordable a solution as the plenty-fast cheap FW400 in QS, old MDDs.

I've seen Dual 1G Quicksilver w/ SD refurb $1900. Its competitive with any brand new system for what we do. .

I saw some at the Apple Store Glendale. I don't remember them being that expensive. Maybe they were just FW800>FW400 cables or something.

heh a dual 800 sells for 1500+ on ebay depending on the guts of it. It didn't really go up OR down.
In a realm beyond site, the sky shines gold, not blue, there the Triforce's might makes mortal dreams come true.

SO, QUICKSILVER IS A BETTER MACHINE?
MDD IS NOT?

FW800 IS ENOUGH REASON TO CHANGE?

I DONT THINK SO.

MDD's have audio problems ... bad news for audio pro's..

MDD's run themselves and the PCI cards hot.

The Quicksilver Dual 1GHz is faster than the MDD Dual 867MHz.

The Quicksilve Dual 800MHz is as near as dammit the speed of the MDD 867MHz without the MDD's problems...

I have to tell you, I have a second generation MDD Dual 1.25GHz G4 and the thing is damn near silent. Works wonderfully, Firewire800 is something I wanted for a couple of reasons, so I had to get it.. But honestly, I think it's a better looking machine than the Quicksilver (not to say the quicksilver isn't gorgeous as well). I love my baby MDD.

I'm a happy FW800 owner.
FW800, AirportExtreme, Bluetooth, 24-bit sound-out (vs 16-bit on QS), native ATA/100 (even thought ATA/66 is good enough), dual optical drives, and front headphone jack should make a better machine than the QS, right?
