I have some treasured audio tapes (cassette and studio quality quarter inch) that I would very much like to save to CD. (My own recordings, from a few years back when dreams of fame kept me going!!).

This seems like the ideal forum to ask how I might best save these recordings digitally; maybe even improve the quality, by removing tape hiss, improving equalisation etc.

I have a 1Ghz G4 iMac - I'd be grateful for any advice as to how I can preserve, and maybe even improve these recordings.

Any simple solutions gratefully received!

Paul

you'll need a program like "peak" to do any advanced noise reduction, have a look on versiontracker.com for a 30 day trial.

other than that, just connect the line out on your stereo system/tape player to the line in on your imac, then click record in your audio recording program. your imac should have come with a great program called "sound studio" which is ideal for simple transfers.

here's a slightly outdated article, it should still be of some use though..

in case of accidental ingestion, consult a mortician.

Thanks Mark,

I might have guessed - blindingly simple!

I will try some noise reduction software as well.
