I'm setting up a Dual867 MDD machine for a client of mine and am having some issues... He ordered a Pioneer DVR-105 for it (the newer superdrives) and I went over there to install it.

SInce the combo drive was in the top slot, I just put the superdrive in the bottom slot and tuned the machine back on. It worked fine until I ran the OSX 10.2.4 updater and now it wont recognize both drives at once.

I can have it recognize the superdrive OR the combo drive, but not both at the same time. They are both set to cable select and in this configuration, only the Combo drive (top slot) shows up. I tried manually setting them to master/slave, but that didn't work either.

I've tried zapping pram and hitting the cuda switch, but that doesn't work either.

The only thing I haven't tried yet is switching the drives around so that the superdrive is in the top slot (thus using the other port on the ide cable) and the combo drive in the bottom slot). That would be the stock configuration from apple.

Does anyone else have any other ideas as to what would cause this?

The problem is with 10.2.4. 10.2.4 will only recognize any superdrive (103, 104, 105) if it is the master drive. If you manually set the combo to slave and the superdrive to master it will work. Or if you were to swap the drives and leave them cable select they will work because the superdrive will be seen as the master then.

Or you could downgrade to 10.2.3 or upgrade to 10.2.5 neither of which seems to have a problem with the superdrive set as slave.

Thanks for the info, that was my next step before I had to leave last time I was over there.

along similar lines and since I don't want to start a new thread, can I add any ide cdrw to the lower slot of my MDD? will they both be recognized without any software adjustments? also how can I then burn two CD's at once (I have toast 5.1) and will iTunes ever be able to import 2 CD's at once? thanks for any help.
