hey I am thinking of getting a ToTL MDD machine to hold me till the 2nd revision G5's or what ever they are called. Well with the new 9700 radeon in BTO machines, does the Logicboard do the card justice and is 8x agp? or is ti still 4x agp even though it has a 8x card? and yes I know its backwards compatable but you still lose some speed. Thanx!

I'm pretty sure it is still 4x AGP... Although I'm not 100%.

It's 4X, but I can tell you that 8X AGP makes almost no difference with the R9700. In fact, most PC people with 8X AGP mobos and 9700's run their AGP at 4X to avoid all sorts of bugs associated with using 8X. When on, the performance gain is ~0.3% (literally).

Perhaps the next generation of cards will use it (meaning post-Radeon9800/GeForceFX), but today's cards just don't really utilize it.
Be happy.

I'm sure it's 4x. You won't lose any speed. The difference between 4x and 8x is negligible. Can you show me anything that shows more than a 1% or 2% improvement with 8x? Nah, didn't think so ;-)

If you REALLY REALLY want an uber elite 3D gaming machine, get a PC. But a dual 1.42 with a 9700 Pro is going to be pretty damned fast for a Mac gamer, regardless of whether AGP is 4x or 8x. I suspect you haven't really done your homework on AGP slot speed

2X vs. 4X is a big difference, since today's grfx cards take full advantage of 4X. 8X, however, is overkill (as I, and some others, have already said).
Be happy.
