Do I have to partition the the drive on one of these before I can install OS X.2? The article states the Power Macintosh G3 is susceptible, but do they mean the Beige G3 or the B&W G3?

I suspect the server model didn't ship with a drive under 8Gig, but I would guess that the KBase article would still apply as the B&W 'model' in general did...

I would be safe rather than sorry...

Peace,

Marc

The 8GB limitation applies only to beige G3's. I have one and had to buy a new ide card in order to use the western digital 120GB HD that I put in it. You should be just fine with drives up to 137 gb in your Mac.

thanks for you help. i put in a 60GB drive earlier today and found out that it was VERY corrupt. i got segment loader errors and it refused to boot about 90% of the time. no diagnostics could repair it, so i am trying to back it up to an external drive and i will reinstall 10.2.5 later, if the drive isn't failing.

do SCSI and IDE play nicely together? i have 2 drives in it and took them out.

Yes, they work fine together, albeit with the caveat that, IMHO, add-on SCSI cards never work as well as the motherboard SCSI Apple used to install.

Blue G3s will boot off 8+GB partitions. The limitation is only for beige G3s and (I think) early iMacs.
