hello,
i'm going to be selling my imac flat panel because it's too much beast for me. i used to pretend i was going to get around to doing video editing, but now i'm sure i don't need it. all i really need to do is word processing and surfing the internet. and maybe some light video editing. no gaming either. but i want a machine that can run jaguar and will last me a few years. keep in mind i'll be maxing out the ram. i'm probably going to be buying off ebay.
thanks for any help

I'd shoot for getting a 600 +, if your gonna hang onto it for a couple of years.

If it's really that big a deal, frankly, I wouldn't bother.. because if anything it'll cost you money..
AND your imac will last you longer AND it's built better AND after all of the hassle with sales you'll end up with $50 or so in your hands (I kid you not), and a computer with a CRT that isn't guaranteed to last.
I'm serious, don't do it. That imac you have will last you 6 years as far as speed is concerned, maybe longer, and it should last as long as 12 years as far as display/power supply are concerned.
The CRT imacs have been known to overheat, are loud, and don't last that long becuase their CRTs aren't that great..
IF YOU MUST! get a refurb emac. It will cost only a few bucks more than an old imac but will be more powerful and have a much better screen.
But I still say keep that imac. You'll seriously feel sorry if you get rid of it.

Perhaps too much machine for you now, but if you're planning on holding on to it and up grading to new programs, even the lite ones, you're better off just holding on to what you want. This whole idea sounds strange to me, b/c you want both less of a computer, but one that will last for awhile, what you have will last for awhile.

If you're going to buy a gumdrop, why not the base emac at the .edu price, which is more of a machine for the same price?
