I sure hope that it is not the updated iPod design found @ Thinksecret - those buttons at the top instead of around the jog dial is a shame. Does anyone like the new buttons?

Jesus, the addition of the dock is also a bad idea if you ask me. What the hell? are they going to add another connector on the bottom of the iPod?

My guess is that we will see some sort of music service, or an updated iPod with larger hard drives, lower prioces and perhaps Bluetooth.

Why Bluetooth? Certainly not to transfer songs... It would ba great to be able to controll iTunes with my iPod around the house... But the killer app is being able to transfer pictures from bluetooth equipped digital cameras to the iPod while on vacation...

This one is a no brainer for Apple.

I like both interfaces, with buttons at the top ot around the wheel as long as the size doesn't change.

And the dock is a pretty good idea I think. There were some reports on Macintouch of dead FW ports with a lot of hot swapping of bus powered devices like the iPod. And then there were those problems with the FW ports solders on the iPod coming loose so it would at times charge but transfer or transfer but not charge. Some people resoldered them and others just sent the iPods back and got new ones. If the dock has an interface on it, it might help prevent both of those problems, plus it'll be kind of cool.

I totally disagree with you. What is the reason for changing the button layout? Is there something wrong with the current design?

Dock? F*ck that. Why do I have to bring another thing with me when I travel? Why would a dock connector be more robust than the firewire port? Can't Apple just make the firewire port a little more sturdy?

My prediction:
No change to the iPod indistrial design - larger HD and/or lower prices. Perhaps Bluetooth for reasons mentioned above.

No, there's nothing wrong with the current desing. I was just saying either one (at least for me) would work.

As for the dock, I hope they have (or could) make the FW port more robust. This is like the button question, I don't care either way. I just know I've been waiting for an iPod since December and I'm getting one of the news ones no matter what. If they radically redid the interface, I'd be worried but it looks likely they won't.

I don't think Jesus cares about the buttons on the iPod, but hey to each his own.
