I have an older Power Mac (9500) is it possible to put an internal IDE optical drive (Superdrive, CD-RW, etc...) in it?
I know that I can upgrade to ATA hard drives with a Tempo PCI, is there anything lke this for the optical drive.
Something that works with OS X.

The Tempo card should work if it's an IDE card. IDE cards should support IDE devices, whether they be hard disks or optical drives. The specs of the card should give you all the information you need.

Really? Thanks, thats great news. I e-mailed Sonnet just to make sure.
Do you think iDVD would work and see the drive?

I'd say it should. I really can't say for sure, but as long as iDVD sees a SuperDrive in your computer it's supposed to work. Do you have a processor upgrade in your machine? It would likely take forever to burn a disc with a 604e processor. If iDVD doesn't see a G4 processor it might get fussy too.
If you put a CD-RW in there it would work though. I can't see any problems there.

Sonnet 800 MHz G4 Upgrade, with 1.5 GB ram and ATI 7000 Radeon PCI card. Do you think that would work okay? May be not as fast as a first gen quicksilver, due to limited bandwidth, but do you think it would be okay? Or should I just bite the bullet and buy a new machine?

Add up what all these upgrades would cost, then price a new machine or look for a used one on eBay.
It's kinda sketchy as to whether upgrading the machine would work with iDVD or whatnot. Maybe somebody here has done it, but you'd know for sure it's gonna work if you go new.
