I have 2 extra hard drives - boh 20 gigers - in my quicksilver. i have one mounted right under my superdrive, and one next to my boot drive. i want to add more (there is a slot for one above the boot drive) and an extra space on the bottom. problem is, there are only so many power cords, and i dont think they make IDE cables with more than 3 connectors on them. am i sol or can i do something about this problem...i really want ot upgrade to a mirror drive G4 so i can get a real burner. please help!

Obviously I don't know anything about your setup, but at first glance I would ask why don't you ditch the 2 20Gig drives and change them for one (or 2!) extra 'monster size' drives? No worries about connections, and ample storage...
If you can't do this, an option would be to get another controller card... You could then chose between IDE or Firewire interfaces and have the option of adding another drive or 2...
However, I don't know how the whole powersupply issue would pan out! I mean you will have 4+ drives in there, and it may possibly be a bit much...
Also cooling could be problematic... Does Apple even recommend 4+ drives in the QS case? May be worth looking at www.XLR8yourmac.com or Macfixit to see how other people have acheived and found the conversion before you decide either way...
Peace,
Marc
*Edit - can't get through to XLR8... anyone know if it is still up and running?*

What you've done (and others please correct me if I'm wrong), is add two slave drives (one to the factory HD and one to the CD/DVD drive). Without adding additional PCI cards, you're at you're limit (one master+slave to each ATA/IDE bus).
In QuickSilvers, the two side-by-side bays are intended for SCSI drives if you have a SCSI PCI card installed. This is not to say that ATA drives can't be mounted there.
My DP-800 has a slave ATA drive mounted above the factory drive, and I have two ATA drives mounted in the side-by-side bays. These two are attached to a PCI RAID card. I've run this set-up for six months and haven't had any problems with heat or power, knock-on-wood.
I'd agree with Marc2211 and add a single larger ATA drive to the bay above the factory drive if you need more data space. As for a fast burner, I just bought a FW one (32x16x40) for $100.

ok...i think im just gonna buy a PC and put all the extra hard drives i have in there. as for a new burner, i would prefer to have an internal one, but the QS only has 1 optical drive bay, and i want to keep my superdrive. oh well, i guess i can wait until i get a new mac ;(

carmine, definitely put these drives in your PC and then promptly buy a Sonnet Technologies PCI card that will enableyou to connect hard drives with capacities in excess of Apple's limit of 137 GB. I have the Sonnet Tempo and two 200 GB drives connected to each of its buses (to maximize bandwidth). I have a 120 GB HD which I use as my main system disc hooked up to Apple's bus.
Dreamy fast setup.
