Hi everyone

I'd like to think that this is possible, but a friend is having a difficult time with PC100 in their B&W machine. I've been able to use 100 in my B&W at home, but this friend is only getting half the read on memory, i.e. 256MB chips reading at only 128MB.

I know that the mobo was revised; I own one of the later models and I fear that this one (a 400MHz model) is an earlier one, but still -- why wouldn't it read the RAM at the full amount? If the problem is caused by RAM, are there more than one type of PC100? Can someone clear up the confusion?

Thanks in advance!

Is the RAM double sided? (chips on eiher side of the RAM stick)
I've heard of computers only being able to read one-sided RAM, I'm not sure if this applies to a B&W though.

The blue and white can only properly handle 16mb memory chips. So make sure it is double sided. Newer PC 133 use 32 mb chips that is why the chips can be on just one side. Make sure it is compatible before you buy, I made the same mistake and bought a generic PC 133 and the machine only reads half the ram. i.e 256 being read as 128.

Okay, one other thing -- this is NOT PC133 after all -- it IS PC100. I have no idea now why PC100 will not work.

Apparently, it was ordered from CDW and was listed as compatible, even listing the EXACT SPECS as the yosemite, B&W G3.

???

What I would do is try putting the RAM is different slots and see if that works. Then put your current RAM into the slot where you were putting the new RAM and see if it works. If so, the RAM must be defective or CDW sold you the wrong RAM.
